Powerleague has announced a significant expansion of its UK padel operations by creating five full-time regional padel lead positions, marking a major milestone for the operator. This strategic move aims to transition the company from a rapid court-building phase to a focus on high-quality coaching, community engagement, and long-term player retention.
Key Responsibilities of the New Regional Padel Leads
The introduction of these full-time roles is designed to professionalize the coaching experience and ensure a consistent standard of service across Powerleague’s 12 existing padel venues—which span from Shoreditch to Paisley—and future sites. The regional leads will be tasked with the following core responsibilities:
- Delivering Coaching Programmes: Leads will be responsible for running structured coaching sessions across their assigned venues, ensuring that players receive high-quality instruction to improve their skills.
- Developing and Mentoring Coaches: Beyond their own teaching, these leads will oversee and mentor other coaches, including the freelance staff, to ensure a high standard of instruction across the entire network.
- Ensuring Consistent Leagues: A primary goal is to standardize the competitive experience, ensuring that every club offers reliable and well-organized league play for members.
- Managing Junior Programmes: The leads will focus on filling the current industry gap in youth development, establishing and maintaining consistent coaching pathways for younger players to transition into adult padel.
- Facilitating Social Experiences: To foster a sense of community and improve retention, the leads will curate social events and tournaments, moving beyond simple court access to create an engaging club environment.
According to Powerleague’s Head of Padel, Freya Tringham, this initiative is a direct response to the evolving UK market. While the company initially prioritized speed to market to meet high demand, they now recognize that long-term success depends on the customer journey. By providing structured activities, Powerleague aims to diversify its demographic, which is currently dominated by young, male football players. Tringham noted that while their football-playing base has been a strong starting point, social events and coaching sessions have proven highly effective at attracting women, juniors, and older players.
Candidates for these positions must be LTA accredited, as Powerleague is an LTA-registered operator. The company views these roles as a way to set a "gold standard" for coaching, ultimately focusing on the key metric of whether customers are measurably improving their game. As Powerleague looks to add padel to nearly half of its 43 football sites nationwide, these regional specialists will serve as the backbone of the company’s effort to transform from a football-centric business into a comprehensive padel provider.
