Former Great Britain number one Frankie Langan is taking his expertise to the international stage, co-founding an ambitious new padel resort on the Indonesian island of Lombok. This expansive project, known as Laga Padel, aims to blend high-level sport with luxury hospitality, marking a significant milestone in Langan’s post-playing career.
The Laga Padel Project
Located on 12,000m² of beachfront property in Kuta Town, Laga Padel—named after the local word for "match"—is designed to be a comprehensive destination rather than just a sports club. Langan is partnering with Singapore-based businessman Adam Murray to bring the vision to life, with construction on the foundations scheduled to begin in August 2024 and a target opening date set for early 2027. The project team includes a diverse group of experts, including Liberty Asquith (Design and Marketing), Kendall Armstrong (Project Governance), William McIntyre (Development Director), Dr. Carl Thong (Indonesian partner), and Christina Garcia (Head of Communications).
The development features several key components:
- Padel Facilities: The site will eventually host six courts, including a flagship centre court featuring a domed roof and dedicated spectator seating, alongside an outdoor court designed for social media engagement.
- Hospitality and Wellness: Beyond the courts, the resort will encompass a restaurant, a beach club, a hotel, and private villas.
- Fitness Infrastructure: The facility will include a state-of-the-art gym to support both athletic performance and general wellness.
- Strategic Partnerships: Langan has already secured a deal with Macron, which will include hosting the Macron Cup during the Lombok MotoGP. Additionally, a partnership with Ducati is currently in development.
Langan plans to split his time between the UK and Indonesia, spending four months of the year in Lombok to oversee operations, while maintaining his commitments to the GB junior coaching team and his ongoing media work. Despite this new international venture, Langan remains active in the UK market. He continues to manage his successful club at Bishop’s Stortford FC—which is currently expanding by two courts—and is preparing to submit planning applications for a new facility at Wakering FC in Southend.
Reflecting on his transition from professional player to entrepreneur, Langan views these sacrifices as essential steps toward his long-term goal of becoming a major padel operator. He cites figures like David Lloyd and Gary Lineker as inspirations, hoping to successfully balance business leadership with his ongoing media presence and coaching career.
