During the FIP World Cup in Doha, the International Padel Federation (FIP) unveiled its ambitious FIP Academy development programme for 2027 and beyond. This initiative focuses on standardizing education, fostering research, and driving innovation to support the global expansion of the sport and its eventual integration into the Olympic Movement.
Key Pillars of the 2027 FIP Academy Programme
The FIP Academy is structured around three core areas—Coaching, Officiating, and the newly announced FIP Lab—to bolster technical expertise and national sports infrastructure. The following initiatives define the roadmap for the coming years:
- Coaching Certification Pathway: Following the existing Level 0 certification, the FIP will launch Level 1 for coaches in February 2027. This will be followed by subsequent levels throughout the year, with Levels 3 and 4 eventually completing the international specialization track for instructors.
- Referees and Technical Officials: Building on the foundation of Level 1 referee training, the academy plans to gradually expand its certification pathways to include more advanced training for referees and other technical officials.
- FIP Academy Methodology: Scheduled for release before the summer of 2027, this initiative will establish a unified set of international training criteria and standards to ensure consistency in how padel is taught worldwide.
- FIP Lab: This new project will serve as the hub for research, innovation, and the practical application of knowledge within the sport, aiming to advance the technical understanding of padel.
- Targeted Development Initiatives: The programme includes the creation of specific projects such as FIP Kids and FIP Women, designed to grow the sport across these key demographics.
The success of these initiatives relies heavily on the collaboration of National Federations, who act as the primary voices within their respective countries. FIP Sport Director Guillermo Alcaide emphasized that the experience and local knowledge provided by these federations are essential to accelerating the project's implementation. By uniting these efforts, the FIP aims to solidify a professional education model that strengthens national structures and elevates the standard of padel on a global scale.
