The newly launched Roses Padel League has officially kicked off, pitting top clubs from Greater Manchester and Yorkshire against one another in a competitive tournament inspired by the historic Wars of the Roses. This autumn-long event aims to determine the premier padel club in the North through a series of home-and-away fixtures, culminating in a final showdown this December.
League Structure and Participating Clubs
The competition features 10 elite clubs, split evenly between the two rival regions. The participating organizations are as follows:
- Greater Manchester: Pure Padel Manchester, Deuce Padel Rochdale, Padel Republic, Just Padel Bolton, and Carbon Padel Club.
- Yorkshire: Optimum Padel, Club de Padel, BigBox Padel Club, Padel Bonito, and Surge Harrogate.
The league utilizes a specific format to ensure competitive integrity and clear standings:
- Match Format: Every fixture consists of three distinct doubles matches.
- Pairing Strategy: The order of the pairs is determined by LTA rankings. Each club's first, second, and third pairs compete against their respective counterparts from the opposing club.
- Scoring: Because each fixture involves three matches, the final result can end in a 3-0, 2-1, 1-2, or 0-3 scoreline, which directly impacts the club's position in the league table.
- Tournament Conclusion: Following the autumn season, the top two clubs from each county will travel to the BigBox Padel Club in Huddersfield in December to compete in the final stages of the tournament.
While the 2026 season is currently restricted to a single division, organizers have expressed ambitions for the future. A league representative noted that there are active plans to introduce multiple divisions featuring promotion and relegation systems in upcoming seasons. Furthermore, there is interest in expanding the league format to include other counties. For now, however, the organizers are focused on the current rivalry, noting that the evenly matched skill levels between the Greater Manchester and Yorkshire communities make them the ideal starting point for this trans-Pennine competition.
