The city of São João da Madeira, Portugal, is set to host a high-stakes FIP Silver tournament this weekend, drawing a competitive field of top-ranked international padel stars. The event, running from Friday, September 25, through Sunday, September 27, features a stacked draw across both the men’s and women’s categories.
Tournament Favorites and Key Contenders
The men’s draw is headlined by several high-profile pairings looking to secure a significant victory on the CUPRA FIP Tour. The following teams are among the most notable entries to watch:
- Alex Ruiz and Javi Garcia: As the top seeds, Ruiz (ranked No. 24) and Garcia (ranked No. 22) enter the tournament following strong performances at the Paris Major Premier Padel and Madrid P1. Garcia is specifically aiming to secure the 15th title of his career.
- Maxi Sanchez and Lucho Capra: This historic pairing enters as the No. 2 seed. Capra is looking for redemption after a narrow defeat in the final of the FIP Bronze in Houten earlier this year, where he was bested by Javi Garcia.
- Coquito Zamora and Marc Sintes: Entering as the No. 3 seed, this duo arrives in Portugal with momentum after a successful outing at the FIP Silver in Espoo, where they secured the title in late August.
- Jose Solano and Ramiro Pereyra: This competitive pair is also confirmed to be in contention for the title.
- Nuno and Miguel Deus: The Portuguese brothers are set to represent the home crowd as they enter the draw.
The women’s draw is equally competitive, featuring several players who have already tasted victory on the circuit this year. The top seeds, Ariadna Cañellas and Laura Luján, lead the field; Cañellas has secured two titles in 2026 at the FIP Bronze events in Alicante and Madeira, while Luján brings recent winning experience from the FIP Silver in Abidjan and the FIP Bronze in Eidsvoll. They are positioned in the top half of the draw alongside the No. 4 seeds, Marta Arellano and Marina Lobo.
On the opposite side of the bracket, the No. 2 seeds, Marta Borrero and Teresa Navarro, will face off against the No. 3 seeds, Camila Fassio and Amanda Lopez. The tournament action kicks off this Friday, with the competition culminating on Sunday, September 27, with the semi-finals and finals.
