Marta Caparros and Agueda Perez made a triumphant return to the court as a pair, clinching the FIP Silver Westerbork title in the Netherlands. The duo, currently ranked No. 42 and No. 43 in the FIP rankings, secured the championship in their first tournament back together by defeating Eugenia Guimet and Aimee Gibson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
A Dominant Path to the Title
The Spanish pair navigated a challenging bracket to reach the top of the podium, displaying consistent form throughout the weekend. Their journey to the final was marked by two key victories:
- Quarter-finals against Camille Sireix and Helena Wyckaert: Caparros and Perez were pushed to a three-set match, ultimately prevailing with a score of 6-2, 6-7, 6-2.
- Semi-finals against Maria Portillo and Martina Parmigiani: The pair maintained their momentum to secure a decisive straight-sets win, finishing 6-4, 6-2.
This victory marks a significant milestone for both players on the CUPRA FIP Tour. For Marta Caparros, the Westerbork title represents her second trophy of the year, following her previous success at the FIP Silver Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire. For Agueda Perez, this win serves as her first title of the year on the circuit, building on her recent experience reaching the round of 16 at the Premier Padel P1 London last month. Caparros also arrives at this win following a strong performance at the P1 Pretoria in late July, where she also reached the round of 16.
Reflecting on their successful reunion, the players expressed optimism for their future partnership. Agueda Perez noted that it was a highly positive first tournament back, stating, "I am happy to be back on court with you, Marta." Marta Caparros echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the work they put in to prepare for the event: "We have accumulated many hours of playing together and achieved our goal. Well done, let’s keep improving." The pair is already looking ahead, with plans to compete together again starting this coming Tuesday.
In addition to the women’s FIP Silver event, the Westerbork weekend also hosted a men’s FIP Bronze tournament. The top-seeded pair of Andrés Fernández Lancha and Denis Perino emerged victorious, rounding out a successful weekend of padel action in the Netherlands.
