East Glos Club, a prominent multi-racket facility in Cheltenham, has partnered with PadelLevels to implement a data-driven rating system that tracks player progress through real match results. By integrating directly with the club's existing ServeSport management software, the initiative aims to replace subjective skill labels with objective, evolving numerical ratings.
How the PadelLevels Integration Works
The partnership utilizes an API connection to pull data from the club’s existing systems, ensuring that players do not need to adopt new, separate platforms to track their performance. The integration captures results from three specific formats to build a comprehensive player profile:
- Open Matches: These allow players to find and compete against opponents who share a similar skill level, ensuring more competitive and balanced games.
- Internal and Box Leagues: By recording results from regular league play, the system provides a consistent stream of data that allows a player's rating to develop and fluctuate accurately over time.
- Americanos: These social tournament formats are included to help connect players with a diverse range of partners and opponents, further expanding the data pool for each participant.
According to Neil Overton, Padel Chair at East Glos, the club has already uploaded men’s, ladies, and mixed league data to the portal to establish initial rankings. This data is expected to assist the club in several key areas, including setting appropriate levels for coaching sessions, facilitating balanced social match-ups, and providing objective, data-driven seedings for future club tournaments.
Beyond the administrative benefits, the system provides players with a tangible way to measure their improvement. Rather than relying on vague terms like "beginner" or "advanced," members can track how their specific numerical rating changes after every eligible match. This transparency is designed to foster a more engaged community, as players can easily identify suitable opponents and track their standing within the broader padel network.
This collaboration represents a significant expansion for PadelLevels, which seeks to create a unified, connected rating system across UK clubs. By embedding itself into the existing ServeSport infrastructure, PadelLevels aims to provide a seamless experience that encourages regular play while building a more accurate, data-backed picture of the local padel community.
