Tournament Highlights and Record-Breaking Performances
The competition in Bangkok showcased high-level play, with the following key outcomes and achievements defining the event:
- Luttikhuis and Hemmes' Dominance: Dutch duo Bo Luttikhuis and Janine Hemmes captured the women’s title by defeating Elsa Terranova and Angelina Neizvestnaya with a decisive 6-4, 6-0 scoreline. The champions were nearly untouchable throughout the tournament, dropping only a single set during their semi-final match against Victoria Kurz and Patricia Araus.
- Montiel and Rubio's Victory: In the men’s draw, Alvaro Montiel and Gonzalo Rubio secured the trophy by overcoming the No. 2 seeds, Ignacio Archieri and Pablo Sanchez, in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
- Rubio’s Historic Milestone: With this win, Gonzalo Rubio reached a record-breaking 17 titles on the CUPRA FIP Tour. This achievement moves him past Jose Luis Gonzalez, Marco Cassetta, and Flavio Abbate, who each hold 16 titles, making Rubio the all-time leader in tournament victories on the circuit.
- Rubio’s Asian Hat-Trick: The Bangkok victory completed a successful season for Rubio across the Asian continent. He previously secured titles at the FIP Bronze in Mumbai, India, in early April, and the FIP Silver in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, later that same month.
- Montiel’s Prolific Season: For Alvaro Montiel, the Bangkok title represents his sixth victory of the year. His previous 2026 successes include FIP Silver events in Cyprus and Alcalá de Guadaíra, as well as FIP Bronze titles in Agadir, Agrigento, and two separate events in Cyprus, all of which were won alongside partner Flavio Abbate.
This tournament serves as further evidence of the growing footprint of professional padel in Asia, following the momentum established by earlier events in Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, and Phuket.
